I run weekly polls on LinkedIn to keep in touch with workforce trends and to better understand what experienced workers are really looking for as they consider future opportunities.

Let's debunk some common ageism myths with the real data:

Myth: Experienced workers won't stay

Reality: 92% of workers plan to work into their 60s and 26% of workers plan to never retire. If the average tenure of ANY worker is 4 years, why wouldn't you hire a worker of any age to step and contribute?

Myth: Experienced workers want too much money

Reality: Workers in their 50s and beyond are often looking for purpose over salary. They may be willing to take a pay cut if it aligns with their overall goals.

Myth: Experienced workers are demanding or inflexible

Reality: 65% of Gen X and Baby Boomer workers can't even get an interview.

Myth: Retirement decisions are based purely on finances

Reality: Yes, 73% are making their retirement decisions based on their financial situation, but health and job satisfaction are other big factors at play.
